How to select precise keywords when doing Google search advertising?

In the process of doing Google search advertising, we all need to filter and select keywords to promote.

If we choose words that no one can search for, our ads will not be displayed, and we will not be able to bring in customer purchases and inquiries.

If we choose keywords that are not related to the product and are not precise, it will lead to wastage of advertising expenses

Therefore, we must choose precise keywords in order to bring in customer leads and save advertising costs.

So, how to choose precise keywords?

1. To select words that match the customer's search habits

When we start doing SEM , don't rely on self guessing when choosing words. You cannot use any word you think of yourself. Because the words we think of ourselves may not be the ones that the customer is actually using.

  • Select words related to the product
Firstly, we should write down the core words related to our product that customers may search for, with a quantity of one or more.

These words may not necessarily be in line with customer search habits. Therefore, using these words alone for Google search advertising is not advisable.

  • Select words that match the customer's search habits
Next, we need to put these words on Google search boxes and Google keyword planners to search for more product related words.

This step is also called expanding keywords or mining keywords.

For example, by using the keyword "office desk" and entering it in the Google search box, you can see relevant keyword recommendations.

Under the search results for "office desk", there are also some related words

In addition, using the Google Keyword Planner tool, we can discover more words related to "office desk"

These words are all words that customers search for in their daily lives and are in line with their search habits.

2、 Choose words that help generate consultation.

Through keyword mining, we can collect a large number of words related to our products and in line with customer search habits.

But we need to further screen to make the keywords more precise.

There are two filtering criteria for this:

  • Is this keyword related to our product
  • Does this keyword help bring customers to purchase or inquire about the product.

For example, for the core keyword of "office desk", we have discovered keywords such as "office desk image", "office desk information", and "office desk maintenance".

Although these words are somewhat related to our product "office desk", customers who search through these words may not have a significant purchase intention, and they may only want to know information about the desk.

If we choose such words for search advertising, it will waste our ad click through costs.

For example, regarding the core keyword of "office desk", we have explored keywords such as "purchasing office desks", "purchasing office desks", "office desk manufacturer", and "which brand of office desk is better".

These words are related to our product and have a certain intention to purchase or consult, making them suitable for use in search advertising.

In general, expand more relevant keywords that are in line with customer search habits through core keywords, and then judge and screen suitable keywords based on the two criteria of "whether they are related to the product" and "whether they help bring purchase or consultation".

Selecting precise keywords helps to generate customer inquiries or purchases, and also avoids the waste of advertising costs caused by inaccurate keywords. It is an important step in the process of Google search advertising.
